You Built the Prototype. Here’s How We Engineer the Rest. Turning a Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, or Replit App Into a Production Web Application.
When you build an application on Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, or Replit, you translate real domain knowledge into working screens, forms, and calculators. Getting that first 80% working in a preview window is a genuine software achievement—until prompt #200 starts breaking existing features and production security gaps surface.
At GreenTree, we step in to engineer the production 20% without throwing away the work you already did. We normalize your codebase into a 100% client-owned Layer A Git repository and single-tenant PostgreSQL database, move private VITE_ API keys to the server side, lock down PostgreSQL Row-Level Security (CVE-2025-48757), prerender your public routes into full HTML for Google and AI search, and plug in our 18-Module Layer B Backend Suite—giving your app a brand-themed Client Operations Portal, our Visual Pin Board, and flat $99–$199/mo Always-On Hosting.
Why We Wrote This Playbook—And What It Means for Your Next Platform
People who dismiss AI-assisted builders as "vibe coders" miss what is actually happening: founders, operators, and industry veterans are learning to be developers in the new sense of the word—specifying detailed business rules, testing edge cases, and iterating until the software works. Getting that first 80% of your application working in a preview window is a real achievement. The reason so many promising prototypes stall right before launch is that the final 20%—untangling a 200-prompt React codebase, moving secret keys off the browser, writing strict database Row-Level Security policies, making pages readable by Google and AI search engines, and wiring up admin portals and domain email—is an application engineering job.

In 1998, Maureen & Gene Salvatore pitched the Rhode Island State-Wide MLS, secured RILiving.com, and architected one of the state’s earliest searchable database-driven real estate platforms. Following senior roles in commercial hosting and physical data center operations in Boston and Connecticut, they founded GreenTree Hosting, LLC in 2007 to build custom web applications and managed Linux cloud infrastructure.
Your prototype isn’t disposable: because Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, and Replit generate standard React, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL/Supabase code under the hood, we build on the screens and workflows you already created rather than starting over.
We eliminate "200-prompt regression": when every new prompt starts breaking three existing screens, we normalize your codebase into a clean, maintainable Layer A Git repository and single-tenant PostgreSQL database that you own 100%.
Don’t burn 500 prompts reinventing an admin portal or billing system: on our $199/mo Core Cloud + Management plan (and custom builds), we plug in Layer B—our 18-module backend suite with a Brand-Themed Client Operations Portal, Visual Pin Board, Leads CRM, and 4 Payment Gateways + WHMCS.
We harden the application layer and make it indexable: we close the 4 security doors (VITE_ secret leaks, CVE-2025-48757 RLS exposure, unthrottled webhooks, and .map source maps) and prerender your public routes into full HTML so Google, ChatGPT, and Perplexity can read your site.

1. Why Promising AI Prototypes Hit a Wall Right Before Launch (And Why It Isn’t Your Fault)
Every week, we talk to founders and business owners who have spent weeks or months building an application on Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, Replit, or Cursor. They aren’t blindly clicking a button and hoping for magic. They know their industry inside and out, they know what their customers need to calculate or book, and they have spent dozens of late nights testing every form, catching broken workflows, and guiding the AI step by step until the application on screen actually works.
Getting that first 80% built is a genuine software development achievement. But almost every new-era builder eventually hits the same wall right around prompt #150 or #200. You ask the AI to fix a login redirect or add an invoice status filter, and suddenly the calculator on page two stops working. You ask it to fix the calculator, and it accidentally rewrites your database query or breaks mobile navigation. In software engineering, this is called regression—and it happens because an AI chat window doesn’t hold your entire application architecture in its head at once; it patches whichever file is right in front of it to make your immediate error message go away.
At the same time, you realize there is an entire layer of production engineering sitting underneath the user interface that a prompt window never warns you about: how secret API keys are isolated from the browser, how database tables are locked down per user, how search engines read a React app, and how transactional emails reach a customer’s inbox. (We cover the monthly hosting cost side—like Famous.ai’s ~$186–$282/mo awake bill and Lovable’s shared-credit backend pauses—in our companion guide, Why Keeping an AI-Built App Awake Can Cost About $186–$282/mo.) This guide is about the application engineering side: how GreenTree steps in as your engineering partner to finish the last 20% without throwing away the 80% you already built.
Domain Logic, Screens, User Flows & Calculators
You already translated your real-world industry expertise into working React components, calculators, forms, and user journeys. None of that hard work gets thrown away.
Prompt Regressions, Tangled State & Shortcut Fixes
After 150–300 prompts, AI coding assistants begin duplicating state, hardcoding workarounds inside UI components, and turning off security checks just to clear error messages.
Clean Architecture, Security, Prerendering & Layer B Modules
Gene & Maureen Salvatore step in to refactor your repo, isolate server-side secrets, write strict PostgreSQL RLS rules, prerender routes for Google/AI search, and plug in our 18-module backend suite.
2. Untangling the Codebase— And Why You Don’t Need to Spend 500 Prompts Building an Admin Portal
The best news about modern AI app builders is what sits underneath them. Unlike older no-code tools that locked your site inside a proprietary drag-and-drop format, platforms like Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, and Replit generate standard React, TypeScript, Vite/Next.js, Tailwind CSS, and PostgreSQL/Supabase code. The language is right—it just needs an experienced systems architect to clean up how the pieces are wired together.
When we graduate your application, our first step is a hands-on code and database normalization pass. We consolidate duplicate components, separate database queries and business logic from visual UI files, pin dependency versions so builds are repeatable, and migrate your schema into a dedicated single-tenant PostgreSQL database. That removes sandbox bottlenecks—such as Lovable Cloud’s documented constraints where database storage allocations cannot be shrunk once raised and full exports are capped at one per 24 hours and 5 GB.
Just as importantly, we save you from spending another 500 prompts trying to build back-office tools from scratch. Under our Layer A / Layer B Ownership Standard (/platform-modules), you own 100% of Layer A—your custom frontend application, calculators, copy, domain, and PostgreSQL database records—with full Git and pg_dump export rights at any time. And when you run on our $199/mo Core Cloud + Management plan (or commission a custom build), we can plug in Layer B—GreenTree’s reusable 18-module backend suite—giving your application a ready-made Brand-Themed Client Operations Portal, our point-and-click Visual Pin Board (/visual-pin-board), a Leads & Quotes CRM, and 4 Payment Gateways + WHMCS without you having to prompt an AI to invent them.
| Application Engineering Layer | What an Unfinished AI Sandbox Repo Typically Looks Like | How GreenTree Engineers & Normalizes Your Production Application |
|---|---|---|
| Frontend Component & State Structure | 200+ prompt patches leaving duplicate state, dead routes, and database calls mixed directly inside UI components | Refactored React 19 + TypeScript component hierarchy with clean data hooks and deterministic production builds |
| Database Architecture & Portability | Shared sandbox database or storage allocations that cannot be shrunk, with 24-hour / 5 GB export caps | Dedicated single-tenant PostgreSQL database (100% client-owned Layer A) with unrestricted pg_dump exports |
| Admin Portal, CRM & Client Collaboration | Either missing entirely or half-built across dozens of fragile AI prompts that break when edited | Plug-and-play Layer B 18-module suite (/platform-modules): Client Operations Portal, Visual Pin Board & Leads CRM included on $199/mo plan |
| Payment Processing & Billing Workflows | Client-side checkout snippets or unverified webhook endpoints vulnerable to spoofed status updates | Server-verified Stripe, Authorize.Net, PayPal, Square & WHMCS gateway modules with HMAC signature validation |
| Ongoing Feature Edits & Photo Swaps | Every minor copy edit or photo swap burns build credits and risks breaking adjacent screens | 1 full hour/mo of human engineering included on our $199/mo plan + point-and-click Visual Pin Board annotations |
3. Closing the 4 Security Doors Inside Your Application Code (Including CVE-2025-48757)
Why do applications built inside AI sandboxes so frequently ship with wide-open security holes? Because an AI coding assistant is rewarded for making your error message disappear as quickly as possible. When a database query fails with permission denied, the fastest way for an AI to make your preview window work is to write a policy that says USING (true)—which quietly grants read and write access to anyone on the internet.
In May 2025, security researchers documented CVE-2025-48757 after scanning 1,645 live Lovable-built applications and discovering that 170 of them (about 10.3%) exposed sensitive database tables—including customer names, emails, payment statuses, and API tokens—because Row-Level Security (RLS) policies were missing or overly permissive. Lovable disputes the classification, saying RLS setup is the customer’s responsibility. Either way, someone has to own it.
The same thing happens with API keys and build artifacts. A Supabase anon key is public by design—it is safe in the browser only when your PostgreSQL tables are locked down with strict RLS policies. What is never safe in the browser is a private secret key (such as a Supabase service_role key, or your secret OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, or Resend keys) placed inside a VITE_ or NEXT_PUBLIC_ environment variable where anyone who opens Chrome DevTools (F12) can copy it. Even multi-billion-dollar AI labs make packaging mistakes: on March 31, 2026, Anthropic accidentally shipped a 59.8 MB .map source map file in a public npm release, exposing 512,000 lines of internal TypeScript. Before your application goes live on GreenTree, we audit and lock all four doors inside your code:
Moving Private Keys Out of VITE_ Browser Bundles
We extract every private OpenAI, Anthropic, Stripe, Resend, and Supabase service_role key out of client-side VITE_ or NEXT_PUBLIC_ variables and move those calls behind authenticated server-side endpoints.
Replacing USING (true) With Table-by-Table RLS
We audit every table sitting behind your public anon key, revoke default public read/write grants, and write explicit per-user and per-tenant PostgreSQL Row-Level Security policies.
Cryptographic Webhook Verification & Bot Throttling
We add payload schema validation, cryptographic HMAC signature checks on payment and webhook routes, and per-IP rate limiting so bots cannot spam your forms or drain your AI API budget.
Stripping Leaked .map Source Maps & .env Templates
We configure your production build pipeline to strip .js.map source maps, block public access to dotfiles, and enforce strict Content-Security-Policy (CSP) and HSTS headers.
// ❌ BEFORE: Typical AI Prototype Shortcut in a React Component
// 1. Secret API key bundled into the browser via VITE_ (visible to anyone in Chrome DevTools):
const aiClient = new OpenAI({ apiKey: import.meta.env.VITE_OPENAI_KEY, dangerouslyAllowBrowser: true });
// 2. Permissive RLS policy created by the AI to silence a "permission denied" error:
CREATE POLICY "Enable access for all users" ON public.customer_quotes
FOR ALL USING (true) WITH CHECK (true);
// ============================================================================
// ✅ AFTER: GreenTree Application-Layer Refactoring & Hardening
// 1. Browser component calls a rate-limited server endpoint; private keys stay strictly on the server.
// 2. Explicit PostgreSQL Row-Level Security (RLS) locks down public.customer_quotes:
ALTER TABLE public.customer_quotes ENABLE ROW LEVEL SECURITY;
REVOKE ALL ON public.customer_quotes FROM anon;
CREATE POLICY "Authenticated users read only their own quotes" ON public.customer_quotes
FOR SELECT TO authenticated USING (auth.uid() = user_id);4. Turning an Empty <div id="root"></div> Shell Into a Search- & AI-Indexable Web Application
There is a second architectural surprise that hits almost every builder after launching a React app from Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, or Replit: Google, Bing, ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity cannot read your pages. Most AI app builders export a client-side Single-Page Application (SPA). If you view the raw HTML source of your live site (Ctrl+U), the entire body of every page is just an empty <div id="root"></div> tag and a JavaScript bundle.
That creates two problems at once. First, search crawlers and AI answer engines that don’t execute heavy client-side JavaScript see a blank page instead of your services, calculators, and articles. Second, every human visitor who lands on your site forces your browser bundle to fire live, uncached queries straight at your database—which is why a single post catching fire on LinkedIn, Substack, or X with 5,000 readers can exhaust shared sandbox credits and pause your backend.
When GreenTree engineers or graduates your application, we upgrade your build pipeline with build-time HTML prerendering across all of your public routes. Every page ships complete, semantic HTML, unified Schema.org JSON-LD @graph structured data, and machine-readable /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt manifests. Public visitors and crawlers read fast, edge-cached HTML without touching your database on every pageview—and if you are launching your new application on an established company domain, we run our 5-source legacy URL audit and map permanent 301 redirects so you never lose existing search rankings.
Every Public Route Ships Complete Build-Time HTML
We replace empty <div id="root"></div> shells with full build-time HTML prerendering across your public pages, guides, and calculator landing routes.
Structured Data for Google, ChatGPT, Claude & Perplexity
We wire unified Schema.org JSON-LD @graph blocks alongside /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt manifests so AI answer engines cite your business accurately.
Replacing an Existing Website Without 404 Drops
If your new app is replacing an older WordPress, Wix, or custom site, we inventory your historical URLs across 5 sources and lock in permanent 301 redirects before cutover.
5. Wiring Up @yourdomain.com Email— And Updating Your App Without Burning Prompts
A commercial web application shouldn’t send customer inquiries, password resets, or receipts from a free @gmail.com address—or worse, send unauthenticated mail from @yourdomain.com that lands straight in Junk folders. As part of graduating your application, we wire your forms and transactional notifications into database-first storage (so every inquiry is saved to PostgreSQL before any email is sent) and route delivery through our Proxmox Mail Gateway (mx.greentreemail.com) and SmarterMail Enterprise cluster (east.greentreemail.com)—complete with full @yourdomain.com mailboxes starting at $4 to $8/mailbox and SPF, 2048-bit DKIM, and DMARC configured across our NS20/NS30/NS40 BIND nameservers.
Finally, we change how your application evolves after launch day. On our $199/mo Core Cloud + Management plan, your app and PostgreSQL database stay running 24/7 (checked every 60 seconds), and you get 1 full hour per month of hands-on human engineering plus our built-in Visual Pin Board (/visual-pin-board). When you want a photo swapped, a pricing table updated, or a workflow tweaked, you don’t have to gamble with AI prompt credits—you simply click the element on your live site, drop a pin, and Gene and Maureen handle the code update cleanly.
@yourdomain.com Email + Guaranteed Lead Capture
Every form submission is saved to your PostgreSQL database before any email is sent, then routed through Proxmox + SmarterMail ($4–$8/mailbox) with full SPF, DKIM, and DMARC alignment.
Point, Click, and Pin Revisions Directly on Your Live App
Stop burning credits and risking regressions just to change a section of your site. Click any element with our Visual Pin Board (/visual-pin-board) to send an annotated snapshot straight to our desk.
1 Full Hour/Mo of Human Engineering on the $199/mo Plan
Our $199/mo Core Cloud + Management plan includes Always-On hosting, 60-second monitoring, our Layer B module suite, and 1 full hour every month for updates, photo swaps, and proactive review.
Frequently Asked Architectural Questions
Can you work with the exact codebase I already exported from Lovable, Famous.ai, Bolt, or Replit?
Yes. Because those platforms generate standard React, TypeScript, Tailwind, and PostgreSQL/Supabase code, we work directly with your existing repository. We audit the code, clean up tangled state or duplicate components, move secret keys to the server side, write strict PostgreSQL Row-Level Security policies, and prerender your public routes without throwing away the screens and logic you already built.
What if my AI prototype is 80% done, but the last few features keep breaking in the prompt window?
That is one of the most common reasons builders call us. Once an AI-generated app reaches 150–300 prompts, chat windows often break existing screens whenever they add a new feature. We can scope a flat-fee engineering sprint (explained at /why-we-charge-350-an-hour) to finish your custom calculators, auth flows, or database logic cleanly, or plug in our ready-made Layer B modules (/platform-modules) for client portals, pin-board collaboration, and billing.
How does this article relate to your Famous.ai & Lovable hosting cost breakdown?
Our companion guide (/library/hosting-your-ai-built-app-beyond-lovable-famous-builder) covers the 744-hour monthly hosting math—showing why keeping a single app awake on Famous.ai costs about $186–$282/mo after 40 free hours (Famous.ai lists ~$197–$297) and how Lovable’s hourly database credits share your build balance and can pause your backend when exhausted. This guide focuses on the application engineering side: how we clean up, secure, prerender, and extend the software itself.
Who owns the code and database once GreenTree finishes hardening my application?
Under our Layer A / Layer B Ownership Standard (/platform-modules), you own 100% of Layer A—your custom frontend application code, calculators, copy, domain name, and single-tenant PostgreSQL database records—with unrestricted Git and pg_dump exports at any time. Layer B (our reusable 18-module backend suite: Client Operations Portal, Visual Pin Board, and Leads CRM) is included with custom builds and our $199/mo Core Cloud + Management plan while hosted with GreenTree, and cleanly decouples if you ever move your app elsewhere.
